About The
Van
The van was bought at Vanfest 2004 from
the now regular German group that visit
the show each year. Thanks Roland.
To twist the use of an over used
“Hollywood German Phrase”
“Your papers ver in Order!” Roland
and we soon registered the vehicle at
DVLA in Exeter.
The vehicle is registered as 1980 but we
believe was manufactured in 1979 and
used as a Disaster Vehicle. It was
bought by the German minister of
transport along with another 120
vehicles and instructed to be kept in
full working order and only to be used
in a national emergency/disaster (War).
The vehicles were assigned to Fire
Stations where they were kept in
immaculate condition. They were
allegedly taken for an annual run to
keep the vehicle ticking over (usually a
trip to one of the beer festivals).
Initially when purchased the mileage was
around 17000 from new.
I would like to know which Fire Station
(I believe Oldenburg TBC) our
vwclockworkorange was stationed at and
maybe take it back there one day on our
trip.
Since 2004 we have:
Replaced the Rubber Fuel Lines &
Headliner (Cheers HK Pete)
Windows Blacked Out (Thanks Nigel at
Fade to Grey)
Customised Ply interior (Cheers

“These guys can transform cardboard
dreams into reality!”(pictured below)

Lighting/plumbing/electrics fitted

And finally for always been to hand a
big thank you to Tony at Styleline,
advice and help always gratefully
received.
